Ms. Bose was the first principal of Modern School and served the school for 27 long years with unerring dedication and devotion. She came from a very respectable and intellectual family of Bengal which was well-known for its efforts towards rural uplifts since 1874. She had a distinguished academic record. When she graduated in 1907, she was awarded the much coveted Padmavati Gold Medal by her university.
The initial 27 years offered by this amazing lady to the school, were marked by struggle, labour, dedication and unstinted loyalty. Ms. Bose was the one who worked with Lala Raghubir Singh to translate all their theories into ideas and ideas into practice. She had an uncanny understanding of human nature. In addition, she was a great administrator. She gave her best years to the school. She nurtured it, and watched it grow. She helped it take its first step, helped it to walk, and when it took strides ahead, was always there to give it a hand if, by chance, it stumbled.
The ideas she cherished and strived for all her life, were to go forward towards knowledge in freedom, to believe in the humanity of all, and to keep the school away from religious and social prejudice.
Mr. Mahendra Nath Kapur was a caring principal whose rapport with the teaching and non-teaching staff and the students was exemplary. Like a sculptor, he skillfully moulded the lives of all students who passed out from the school. For 30 years he worked with zeal to make the school what it is today. His old students fondly remember him as a great educationist, who inculcated strong bonds of fraternity among Modernites.
Mr. Kapur emphasized the importance of academic excellence, ensuring that the curriculum remained challenging and comprehensive. His focus on maintaining high academic standards helped students achieve outstanding results in various examinations and competitive assessments. He strongly believed in the holistic development of students. Under his leadership, the school offered a wide range of co-curricular and extracurricular activities, including sports, arts, and community service, allowing students to explore and develop their talents beyond the classroom.
In 1969, he was awarded the “Padma Shri” as a testimony to his contribution towards the cause of education.
Mr. Chowdhry started his career in Modern School Barakhamba Road as a teacher and in 1964, was appointed Principal of an Indian aided school in Kathmandu, Nepal. He returned to Delhi to take over as the Principal of Salwan Public School. In 1977, he took over the as Principal Modern School and continued in that position till 1981.
During his tenure, Mr. Chowdhry emphasized the importance of a balanced education, where academic rigor was complemented by a strong emphasis on sports, arts, and community service. He believed in nurturing critical thinking, creativity, and ethical values, preparing students to face future challenges with confidence and integrity.
He was awarded the “Padma Shri” by the President of India, Mr. V.V. Giri in the year 1972 for his contribution in the field of education and sports.
Mr. S P Bakshi embarked on his career as teacher of English in Modern School and took over as Principal of the school in the year 1982. He holds his post-graduation degree in English and Sociology. Under his leadership, there were significant improvements in the school's infrastructure including Squash courts and Platinum Jubilee Block which is equipped with modern laboratories, lecture rooms and a mini multi-purpose hall for audio-visual facility. The first Blood Donation Camp was held in his tenure, which is still organised every year.
In the year 1970-71 he was awarded the Fullbright Scholarship to teach English in a High School in a small town called Fort Wayne, USA.
Mr. R K Bhatia was appointed the Principal of Modern School in the year 1996. He has started his journey as a Mathematics teacher in the school way back in 1971. He was a Maths teacher par excellence and climbed the proverbial ladder with utmost sincerity and dedication. Besides being a good human being he had a sound academic background.
Understanding the critical role of teachers in student success, Mr. Bhatia prioritized professional development for the faculty. He organized training programs and workshops to help teachers stay updated with the latest educational practices and methodologies.
His unending list of his achievements include being the Head Examiner, CBSE and the CEO for marking scheme (All India) for Mathematics (Class XII)
Mrs. Lata Vaidyanathan is a veteran educationist known for her significant contributions as the Principal of Modern School, Barakhamba Road. She was the Founder Principal of Eicher School at Parwanoo and also served as Principal of Bhartiya Vidya Bhawan’ s school at Chandigarh before joining Modern School.
A post graduate in Science, she spearheaded the movement for ensuring burden-free education & joyful leaning for children. She firmly believes that each child is unique and that the educational system should facilitate and address the uniqueness and individuality of each child. According to her, art, music, dance, sports and other cultural activities form an integral part of education. As a practitioner of Multiple Intelligence approach to the learning process, she seeks to ensure that the class room transaction is oriented towards meeting the individual’s needs and in ensuring Total Quality Management in education. She has authored many books for pre-primary and primary school children.
Her work has been acknowledged by various educational and governmental bodies, highlighting her impact on the educational landscape. She was honoured with the “National Award to teachers’ for the year 2003 which was given to her by the President of India on 5th September 2004.
Dr Vijay Datta B.Sc, M.A, M.Ed, PhD in education, GOC-in-C Commendation, having secured a PhD- A detail study of Life Skills and Emotional Intelligence as a correlate of Scientific Attitude, has been instrumental in bringing the concept of Life Skills to the country besides propagating the idea of Emotional Intelligence and Scientific Attitude.
He has an experience of 35 years in the field of school education. He took over the reins of Modern School, Barakhamba in 2014. His pro-active approach has ensured distinct rise in the academic index and in the holistic development of the students. Dr Datta’s assiduity and conscientiousness in duty has propelled Modern School to greater heights. Dr Datta is the Member of the Governing Body of CBSE. He has been spearheading pertinent discussions on the N.E.P. for the members of IPSC schools.
Being an enthusiast sports person, Dr. Datta has a passion for horse riding, tennis, golf, parasailing and flying micro-light aircrafts. He reintroduced NCC and horse riding in Modern School. To boost sports related activities, lecture-cum-demonstrations by players of national and international repute are organized regularly to inspire the students to learn from their achievements and rise above challenges and temporary failures.
Keeping in mind, ‘Service above Self,’ Dr. Datta has strived to help the underprivileged people and inspired the students to do the same through various community service campaigns/projects. During the distressing times of the pandemic, he has been instrumental in launching numerous philanthropic initiatives, food, medicine and Vaccination drives.

Ms. Vibha Khosla is a visionary educationist who is constantly engaged in creating responsible global citizens with her vision while constantly enriching the pedagogical system with her neoteric approach and ingenious ideas and initiatives. She has been advocating and implementing new ideas in the field of pedagogy for more than 25 years and was the Founder Principal of Shri Ram Global School, Delhi since 2016. During her career she has introduced different types of teaching-learning methodologies which have drastically determined the remarkable comprehensive development of all the institutions she has been associated with. She has done her master’s in English with a B.Ed. Her experience and prowess in dealing with children, parents and her staff with ease, has created an indelible mark in the education industry.
She also works in the capacity of CBSE City coordinator managing more than 150 CBSE schools all over Delhi. She is the master trainer of COE and imparts training to School Leaders and prospective Resource Persons for Pedagogical Planning. She has successfully conducted more than 200 workshops pan India. Mr. Bose was a soft-spoken, gentle and humble person. He was a senior teacher at Modern School Barakhamba Road for many years, and the perfect choice to establish a new school at Humayun Road.
Looking after approx. 400 students and handful of teachers working together as a team with immense love and affection for each other is something that he did each day for over 7 years.
He inculcated the habit in students from pre-primary classes about speaking on stage during morning assembly, about their experiences such as a vacation with their parents, their pet, an addition in their family, or their favourite toy etc.
During his tenure in 1960s, the Milk Break was an integral part of school “time table”. All students were expected to queue up in the courtyard for the daily dose of “sweetened’ Delhi Milk Scheme milk, which was dispensed in small bottles. After the tanking up, the children freaked out on the field, playing innovative games like hand cricket, hand tennis and king-queen etc. For students, it was the most enjoyable part of the day.
Mr. R D Goyal joined Modern School as a teacher of History in 1943, in 1968, he took over as the Headmaster of the Junior School and served in this capacity till 1975. Known to be kind, unassuming and humble person, he is always remembered with a lot of respect for his devotion and dedication towards the cause of education. The company of small children was a source of extreme joy and real happiness for him.
Mrs. David joined R S Junior Modern School on 21st July 1980. During her 10 years of dynamic stewardship, the school gained enormous strength and stature and came to be recognized as one of the best primary schools not only in Delhi, but in the whole of India. Her service in the field of education was given due recognition by the Delhi Administration and other non-government organisations in the form of suitable awards and certificates. As a person, she was kind, humane and extremely understanding.
“Dee Dee’ or “David Aunty”, as she was lovingly called, was a tutor and guiding spirit who showed the path to her teachers. She led by example and had tremendous leadership qualities. After her demise in 1990, the ‘Big Hall’ of the school was named after her.
A picture of humility, elegance, simplicity and dedication, Mrs. Geeta Dudeja gave 39 years of selfless service to Modern School. Having joined as a teacher in 1964, she had taught and guided her students for 26 long years before she assumed charge as the Headmistress of RSJMS n 1990. During this time, she interacted closely with three generations of Modernites and with her unconditional love and warmth, imparted the profound values of gentility, righteousness and sincerity. Her indefatigable spirit and boundless energy was palpable in every nook and cornor of the school.
In the year 2003, Mrs. Manju Rajput took charge as Headmistress, R S Junior Modern School. Widely experienced, she is driven by an innate desire to see the school excel in every field. Her untiring efforts have received due recognition with the school receiving several accolades in various inter-school competitions, for achievements in sports, literary and co-curricular activities. A dynamic leader, she is a great motivator and with her vision and foresight for the school, she has succeeded in taking it to greater heights. She brought with her a fresh perspective and approach, and under her leadership, the school has seen tremendous growth and success. Always open to suggestions and positive change, she encourages her staff and students to realize their potential. She has been instrumental in building an 'army' of happy and confident individuals at RSJMS.
A gentle and poised lady, Mrs. Nalini Singh Rajput took over the position of Headmistress, RSJMS in the year 2020. She worked with diligence to carry forward the legacy of the school to new heights. An embodiment of patience, serenity and grace, she enjoyed interacting with the toddlers. She was instrumental in bringing the classroom “online” for students during the difficult times of covid pandemic.
Her effective communication skills and empathetic nature made her build strong relationships with students, teachers, and parents, creating a cohesive community within the school. She is adept at managing resources efficiently, implementing innovative teaching methods, and resolving conflicts with fairness and compassion. Ms. Abha Sadana has been a passionate educator for more than three decades. She has worked towards educational research and in evolving new teaching methodologies. She is a Postgraduate in Economics and History and has done PHD level courses in Institute of International Education, University of Stockholm, Sweden. She has taught in various schools and institutes which include the International School of Stockholm and International School of Paris, Vasant Valley School, and University of Bradford.
For 9 years she was the Principal of The Modern School, Education City. She has been bestowed by many awards and accolades. For cultural exchange, research and employment, she has travelled to more than 20 countries in the world. Her research work involves submission of papers in UNESCO, University of Stockholm, and Prime Minister of India’s Office.
Mr. Rajiv Shrivastava is an academician with rich and qualitative experience of nearly three decades in the field of education. With excellent people management skills, and an ability to manage change with ease, Mr. Shrivastava has a vast foresight into international educational practices and cultures. He joined The Modern School, Education City as Principal in the year 2023.
Apart from vast experience in both residential and day schools, for nearly three decades, Rajiv has led initiatives for climate action. He founded Act Now (www.actnow.org.in), a global network for environmental awareness, climate action, sustainable development, and peace. He has been honored with many international titles and awards, the including Green Difference Award 2022 and Climate Youth Leadership Award 2024.
He is also the Co-Founder of All Intellectuals Edu-Leaders Society (AIELS). With a network of over 2000 educational leaders, AIELS is envisaged to nurture advocacy, development, and research of holistic and learner centric education systems of the country.
In the year 2017, a young and dynamic lady, Mrs. Neetu Blest has been given the responsibility of nurturing a newly opened Modern School in the Faridabad region of Delhi-NCR.
